Your HyPer9 Electric Motor & Motor Controller Guide

It is not uncommon that people talk about the “HyPer9” or “the 9” or just the HyPer 9 electric motor when it comes to an EV conversion. This is for a reason, and we would like to elaborate a bit more on this very popular electric motor, which is applicable for many medium-to-lightweight EV conversions.

HyPer 9 IS ™ – SRIPM Integrated System

For any light to mid-weight daily driver, the HyPer 9 Integrated System™ (IS) is the best powertrain. Combine many technologies for racing and heavy-weight cars.
Its Synchronous Reluctance Internal Permanent Magnet (SRIPM) technology produces more power per pound than any other motor in its class and offers exceptional torque and efficiency.

The 100V brushless HyPer 9 Motor, HyPer-Drive X1™ Controller/Inverter, SmartView Programming Software, Low Voltage Wire Harness Kit, and Main Contactor are all components of the HyPer 9 IS™.
This system differs from other EV solutions available on the market thanks to a number of distinctive features.

The complete HyPer9 kit consists of a brushless HyPer 9™Motor, HyPer-Drive X1xx Controller/Inverter, Low voltage wire tree, and main power relay.

The system has some unique advantages over other systems on the market. There is a choice of Low Voltage (LV – max 130V) and High Voltage (HV – max 180V) versions.

Both are also optionally available with an output shaft at the rear of the motor, called Dual (D) versions.

NetGain

Before we continue, let’s give some credit and attention to the company that makes it all possible.

The HyPer™, WarP™, ImPulse™, and TransWarP™ electric motors used in electric vehicles and electric vehicle conversions are exclusively available by NetGain Motor.
The conversion of conventional internal combustion engine vehicles into hybrid gas/electric or electric assist vehicles may also utilize these potent electric motors.
Their motors are produced by Warfield Electric Motor Company in Frankfort, Illinois.

A team of experts with strong and varied experience in business, finance, technology, research, development, marketing, and automotive performance founded NetGain Motors, Inc. in 1998.

In addition, NetGain conducts research and development on the parts and designs of electric and hybrid vehicles. Only Authorized Motor Dealers in their distribution network have access to their motors.

HyPer-Drive X1 ™ – SRIPM Motor Controller/Inverter

The HyPer-Run X1 TM Controller, which is outfitted with the most advanced power electronics technology, can drive SRIPM motors in a variety of applications up to 85kw peak power. The SRIPM technology in our HyPer 9 TM Motor can only be powered by the X1 controller. Additionally, the majority of AC induction and permanent magnet motors can be controlled by the X1!

This little device does two tasks:

  1. Controller – They refer to the Low Voltage Logic Module as the Controller. The K1 Wire Harness receives and transmits data for Throttle, Brake, Direction, Power Limits, Rotor Position, etc. See the X1 Technical Manual for more capabilities and specifications. See the HyPer 9 System User Manual for default wiring and programming.
  2. Inverter – They refer to the High Voltage Power Module as the Inverter. The DC Supply connects to B+ & B- terminals where it is inverted to 3 Phase AC for the U,V, & W Terminals to drive the HyPer Motor. This Inverter can also be programmed as a Slave to an external Control Unit, which takes responsibility from the Controller’s Logic Module.
  • DC supply voltage from 62V to 130V and current up to 750A Peak
  • Up to 50% higher power density than direct competitors (Superior power in half the footprint)
  • Field Oriented Control algorithm optimized specifically for Synchronous Reluctance Internatl Permanent Magnet motors
  • Fully customizable I/O
  • IP65 protection – Robust and Reliable
  • Extensive program customization from PC with Smartview Software
  • Optional Liquid Cooling

HyPer-Drive X144 ™ – SRIPM Motor Controller/Inverter

The HyPer-Run X144 TM Controller, which is outfitted with the most advanced power electronics technology, can drive SRIPM motors in a variety of applications up to 85kw peak power. The SRIPM technology in our HyPer 9 TM Motor can only be powered by the X1 controller. Additionally, the majority of AC induction and permanent magnet motors can be controlled by the X144!

HyPer 9 Electric Motor Sizing

All fun and games, but will it fit my car? Well, they make it easy for you to figure out. They have a complete page dedicated to all the sizing information you need. We really love this about NetGain. Not only for the engines, but also for the controllers above you will find all sizing data.

Manual or Wiring Diagram?

There is plenty more information on the HyPer9 to share, but please also refer to its Manual (click here) where you can find tons of handy information. Thje guys of EV West also have made a very nice Wiring Diagram which perhaps could help out as well to get more familiar beforehand with what an EV Conversion includes.
